Rutronik Electronics has expanded its portfolio by including 600 V and 1200 V FREDs (fast recovery epitaxial diodes) from Panjit, a Taiwanese company. These Panjit FREDs are divided into two categories: Optima, which have low forward voltage, and Speedy, which have low reverse recovery time. Rutronik states that these diodes are well-suited for rectifier or freewheeling circuits in various power applications such as UPS systems, data centers, and household appliances.
The Optima-type FREDs are specifically designed for rectifier circuits like high-power bridge diodes and bypass diodes, making them ideal for low switching frequency applications. On the other hand, the Speedy-FREDs are more suitable for high-frequency free-wheeling switching in CCM (continuous conduction) boost PFC and Vienna PFC.
For instance, the Speedy PSDC0860S1 is a pair of 600V 8A FREDs available in TO-252AA packaging. It exhibits a forward voltage drop of 1.8V and recovers in just 35ns. In comparison, the Optima PSDC0860L1, also a 600V 8A FRED in TO-252AA packaging, has a lower forward voltage drop of 1.3V but a longer recovery time of 60ns. Both diodes have a maximum leakage current of 100μA at 600V and 25°C, which increases to 500μA at 125°C.
Panjit offers FREDs with currents ranging up to 60A at either 600V or 1.2kV. These diodes are available in different package options, including TO-263, TO-220 (isolated and non-isolated), and TO-247.
