07/04/2023

Digi-Key Electronics, one of the world's largest electronic component distributors, is celebrating its 50th year in business. The company was founded in 1972 by Ronald Stordahl in a small storefront in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, with just a handful of employees. Since then, Digi-Key has grown to become a global leader in electronic component distribution, and now employs more than 4,000 people across multiple locations worldwide.

Over the past 50 years, Digi-Key has built a reputation for its expansive selection of in-stock electronic components, fast delivery, and exceptional customer service. The company's commitment to customer satisfaction has earned it a loyal customer base that has helped to fuel its growth over the years.

As part of the 50th-anniversary celebration, Digi-Key is reflecting on its past accomplishments while also looking forward to the future. The company remains committed to its core values of providing exceptional service to its customers, empowering its employees, and giving back to the communities it serves.

Digi-Key's success can be attributed to its ability to adapt and evolve as the electronics industry has changed over the years. The company has embraced new technologies and business models, and continually invests in its infrastructure and workforce to ensure it remains at the forefront of the industry.

The longevity and success of Digi-Key can also be attributed to the company's strong culture, which values hard work, innovation, and teamwork. As it celebrates 50 years in business, Digi-Key is poised for continued growth and success in the years ahead.

To mark the achievement of reaching $5.1 billion in sales in 2022, Digi-Key will hold a week-long celebration and commemorate the milestone at company events throughout the year, recognizing team members for their contributions. Based in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, the company processes and ships 6.5 million orders annually across 180 countries, serving nearly a million customers with a global workforce of 5,000. Recently, Digi-Key scaled its capacity to meet demand by opening its impressive 2.2 million square foot Product Distribution Center expansion (PDCe), one of North America's largest warehouses.
